At Reigate School, we believe every child should have the opportunity to grow as a confident, responsible and active member of our community. Leadership is woven throughout school life and reflects our commitment to helping children achieve their academic, social and personal potential. We provide a wide range of roles that enable children to develop character, communication skills and a strong sense of responsibility.
Our Head Student Team represents the highest level of student leadership at Reigate School. Each year, children in Year 10 apply for the positions of Head Students and Deputy Head Students, taking part in a formal process that highlights their commitment and suitability for the roles.
They serve as role models for younger children, represent the school at key events and play a central role in promoting the Reigate School Values. Activities include welcoming visitors at school events, helping lead charity events and supporting our Year 7 transition program.
We are proud to offer extensive leadership opportunities through our Senior Prefect and Prefect teams. These roles help maintain the positive, respectful culture that runs throughout the school. A number of children are appointed each year following a competitive application process, which demonstrates just how important these roles are. Senior Prefects often take on mentoring, event support and organisational responsibilities, while Prefects contribute to the day‑to‑day running of the school. Both groups are excellent ambassadors who demonstrate maturity, teamwork and dedication.
Leadership is further embedded through our vibrant House System, which is central to developing character and community identity. Every child and member of staff belongs to one of four Houses: Parks, Turing, Curie, or Attenborough
Each House is supported by a Student Leadership Team, who work closely with the Heads of House to organise events, drive participation and promote the Reigate School Values across the school.
Each House is represented by two House Leaders, who act as the key figureheads for their House community. Their responsibilities include:
Leading their House during Sports Day
Supporting and promoting Inter‑House competitions
Encouraging participation in House events
Representing their House during charity, cultural and celebratory activities
Helping younger children feel part of the House community
House Leaders play a vital role in upholding the ethos, pride and identity of their House.
Leadership at Reigate School also extends to peer support and mentoring. Our older children, particularly those in Year 11, regularly work with Year 7 form groups to help them with the transition into secondary school.
This includes:
Supporting Year 7s with routines and organisation
Helping them settle socially
Acting as trusted and approachable role models
Strengthening the sense of belonging from day one
This mentoring approach reflects our wider ethos of ensuring every child feels supported, valued and confident in their new environment.
In addition to formal leadership roles, our newsletters regularly celebrate children who demonstrate leadership through their actions, whether captaining sports teams, showing kindness, excelling in form roles or supporting community initiatives. These everyday moments are just as important, showcasing the values, resilience and personal growth that define the Reigate School community.
