Our work in Personal Development helps to ensure children achieve their personal and social potential. Across the time they spend with us, we help children to grow as individuals with strong characters, with rich cultural capital and a comprehensive understanding of social, moral, spiritual and cultural issues.
We adopt a progressional approach to Personal Development, helping children to specifically make progress in the following three strands:
Health and Wellbeing: helping children to live mentally and physically well
Relationships: helping children have healthier relationships with themselves and others
Living in the Wider World: helping children get ready for life beyond school: education, employment and global citizenship
Our Personal Development approach is multi-faceted. The curriculum element is taught to all children as Life Skills, a standalone timetabled lesson taught by expertly trained staff. Personal Development is enriched through the Tutor Programme, delivered daily. Within the Tutor Programme, children engage in:
The Forum: weekly current affairs, with rich discussions and opportunities to 'disagree agreeably'
Tutor Reading: carefully selected non-fiction articles, aimed at enriching cultural capital and literacy skills
Year Group Focus: bespoke sessions developing study skills, revision and other vital skills within academia
Furthermore, we run a comprehensive careers programme, which fulfils each of the Gatsby Benchmarks. Our assembly programme complements our Personal Development offering, ensuring children hear motivational, relevant and purposeful messages each day.
