At Reigate School, pastoral care sits at the heart of our ethos, shaping a warm, respectful and supportive environment in which every child is known, valued and encouraged to thrive. We are committed to helping children achieve their academic, social and personal potential, providing a happy and stimulating setting with high expectations and strong relationships across the community. Our school values of Respect, Curiosity, Resilience, Friendship and Kindness underpin daily life and help foster inclusion, resilience and confidence. Each year group within the school benefits from a dedicated pastoral team: a Head of Year and two Deputy Heads of Year, except in Year 7, which has three Heads of Population, to support transition, and smaller form sizes across 18 forms in total. We also have three full‑time pastoral support staff whose sole role is to work with children who need additional care, ensuring personalised support is always available.
This dedication is reflected in children quickly settling to learning, demonstrating excellent conduct and benefiting from an extensive range of enrichment activities that build character and support wellbeing.
The strength of our pastoral care was highlighted in the latest Ofsted inspection (December 2023), which judged behaviour and attitudes as Outstanding and personal development as Outstanding, noting that pupils feel safe and well cared for at our school. Our staff work closely with families to provide personalised support, ensuring every child feels secure, listened to and equipped to flourish both in and beyond the classroom. Through strong communication, dedicated pastoral structures and a culture of mutual respect, we nurture confident young people who build lasting friendships, appreciate diversity and grow into responsible, well-rounded individuals.
